Laura holds a BA from Brown University and earned a Masters in Speech and Hearing Science with a Medical Emphasis at the University of Washington.  Prior to becoming an SLP, Laura had a long career in the performing arts, acting and directing in theaters across the country.  In addition, she has taught acting, directing and accents for the stage at the undergraduate and graduate level.  Laura has worked for the last several years in early intervention, serving very young children and their families, especially those families for whom English is not the first language in the home.  Laura believes that encouraging families to advocate for their children and to be actively involved in the process of therapy is one of the most important parts of her work as a speech pathologist.  Laura has an especial interest in infant/child mental health and the impact of attachment on communication and is trained in Promoting First Relationships (PFR) through NCAST at UW.

Laura is trained in Hanen and has taught numerous parent training courses through It Takes Two to Talk.  Laura is a level 1 PROMPT therapist and continues to explore ways in which hands-on techniques can benefit kids who face motor speech challenges.

Laura’s clinical interests also include syndromes of the head and neck, language and articulation concerns, voice disorders, accent reduction, rehabilitation following craniofacial surgeries and disfluency.  While in Japan for 5 months last year, Laura worked with both children and adults who stutter, collaborating with her Japanese colleagues on traditional and alternative therapies. She also offered accent modification for students and faculty at Hyogo University in Kobe who were planning research trips to the US and Australia. Laura works at the West Seattle and Wallingford PSLT offices.

Like most of the kids she treats, Laura loves to play outside.  She dreams of raising chickens in her backyard and can often be found digging in the dirt.  Her husband and 2 children are (mostly) willing guinea pigs for her experiments in the kitchen, especially with food they have grown in their own garden.
